Though Gabby’s portrait is classic Velazquez (well, except for it’s a dog) it was important to include her stuffed bear. As Ana, Gabby’s “mom” describes it, Simone the bear was not meant to be a dog toy. It was very expensive. But Gabby, long ago as a puppy, had other ideas and climbed on a shelf to get it. No matter where it was, she managed to get it. Finally it became Gabby’s bear. Simone has had several paw reconstruction surgeries, but still is most often found between Gabby’s front paws. These are the kinds of memories that just must be captured in the portrait of Ana’s beloved dog who is now a senior and much slowed down. Stay tuned for the final portrait.
